Oprah is a way better interviewer than Bruce Shapiro. I got lost and confused when Bruce Shapiro spoke. But when Oprah and Dr. Perry spoke, there was clarity.

Thank you both, I have loved the book and share it widely. The way I speak to my community about this is by linking it to our stored memories and how I use memory research and memory upgrading processes to rewire the brain. For example the memory Oprah spoke about that was still triggering her even though she was living in her high rise apartments. If that memory was upgraded she would no longer be triggered and she would be able to sleep feeling safe again. The way out of trauma is to address the memories.

I’ve always thought this way. But, when I say to people “that murderer or pedophile I guarantee had the same done to them” and all the prisoners have had loads of abuse and abandonment, people role their eyes and get mad at me. 🤷🏿‍♀️

I had similar trauma beginning in infancy and recently discovered what happened to me and how it affected me life long, almost 83 years. I thought I was flawed and defective for many, many years and kept trying to find out what was wrong with me, only to find out nothing was wrong with me, it was society that was wrong and my mother was a victim of this society and religion and it's rules that prompted her good intentions which were very traumatic to me, so much so it changed my brain. Finally fear left within the past two years and finally I can live in the present moment of love and peace. I've been trying to write my memoir with all my journal entries, but don't have support from anyone. Have not been able to make friends and family mostly is distant due to my trauma.....lots of side effects of emotional trauma in the early years.....so very sad. I wish I could find some editor to help me.

As an adult who experienced childhood trauma; I have a question. Is it society’s responsibility to tiptoe around our triggers? I think the goal of this book was to raise awareness. I hope it does.

its not societies responsibility ,but it is government's responsibility to train more therapists and teachers in Trauma Informed Awareness. it is our own responsibility to help ourselves and get help.

The book pointed to a solution i had never understood as clearly ever before: Self-regulation. Everything changes completly by engaging in self-regulation. I have been practising this since i listened to the audiobook the first time and it has changed so much. The book i use as toolbox for learning and practicing self-regulation is Dr Peter Levines', Dr Maggie Phillips' book 'Freedom from Pain'.

“Tiptoe” may be how it feels given we’ve been so prone to blame victims at best and deny victim hood in general. When someone has a stroke or heart attack do we tiptoe around them? Or do we assist and work very very hard at it?

This book has completely confirmed for me so many things about myself and that I'm not crazy...it's just the way my brain has been affected. Thank you. P.S. I don't believe I would have had the same experience in reading the book because there is so much (very good) science/research detail.

Another example of science trying to play the role of God in the healing process. I’m not religious at all but it’s clear to me that we are trying to come up with a scientific way of healing when it all really boils down to faith and love at the end of it. But hey know yourself out!

Having strong repairs even if there are many fzilures weakness fear doubt... Affective surounding can be important. Learn self respect. Educative pattern. I went through Bruce Perry's training at St A. I have used this understanding for over 14 years in the classroom. I even did a talk on it a few years back. ua-cam.com/video/bHB-XoPjIVQ/v-deo.html
